Every Wednesday I post a handful of articles, blog posts, videos, columns, books or anything I find interesting and worth your time. Ranging from thought-provoking to funny to ridiculous, most are things I stumbled upon in the past week. Hope you enjoy, and thanks for reading along!
"Short Read" = 10 minutes or less. "Long Read" = 10 Minutes or longer.
#1 - I'm a New York City School Administrator. Here's How Segregation Lives On. - Amy Piller - vox.com (Long Read)
This exposé by Amy Piller is an in depth look into her story of becoming an educator in New York City. She exposes the deep segregation in our school systems that results in educational inequality. It is an eye-opening and disheartening read.
#2 - OK Go - Upside Down & Inside Out - (Music Video - 3:22 Minutes)
The same guys that out together the "Here It Goes Again" Treadmill video, OK Go released another video. Creative and visually stimulating, the video was shot on an airplane in zero gravity, certainly worth the time!
#3 - Today's Teens Are Better - vox.com (Long Read)
During my time as a Youth Pastor, I would often hear parents or older generations reminisce about "the golden years," referring of course, to their years as a teenager. The underlying assumption was that teens in their day never behaved or acted out like teens today. Vox.com has put together a great website that allows you to choose the year you were born and can then see how your generation compares to today's generation of teens. It appears today's teens are a bit more well behaved than expected.
#4 - Gravitational Waves Detected, Confirming Einstein's Theory - Dennis Overbye - New York Times (Long Read)
Certainly the biggest story to break in the past week was in the confirmation of Einstein's Theory of relativity. The article from the New York Times includes a brief video that describes not only the basics of the discovery but also how it was discovered.
#5 - Kingdom Come - Scot McKnight - RelevantMagazine.com (Short Read)
The concept of Heaven/Kingdom of God, has always been a debated concept in Christian theology. Scot McKnight, along with NT Wright, have been formative in my understanding of the Kingdom of Heaven. In this article, McKnight offers a pragmatic understanding of what the it means to live into the Kingdom of God both here-and-now as well as an eternal perspective. Well written and brief article that is sure to challenge some of your pre-conceived thoughts regarding Heaven.
